Chelsea FC legend is calling on his former team to improve on the pitch when they travel to Craven Cottage on Thursday evening. It’s a crunch Premier League clash for the Blues considering that they currently sit tenth in the table and they are currently three points worse off than a Fulham side who are punching firmly above their weight. WhatAcca.com sat down recently with Gus Poyet for an exclusive interview, with the Uruguayan dismayed at what’s been happening at his former club right now. However, the Greece national team manager is expecting a better performance from Graham Potter’s side. “Chelsea must be a lot better” Poyet told WhatAcca when asked about Thursday’s game. “It’s difficult because we are not inside the dressing room. When you are a coach, you are inside every day and know what’s happening. We don’t know what exactly is going at the club”. Chelsea Fan's Booed off the Team The Chelsea team were booed off by their supporters at half-time and full-time at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with the Blues suffering a 4-0 FA Cup defeat against Manchester City which probably ranks as their worst performance of the season to date. It has seen the pressure build on manager Graham Potter. Especially as many of the Chelsea fans were chanting the name of Thomas Tuchel during that recent match. With the former Brighton boss having only signed a five-year deal at the club as recently as September. It’s interesting to see that Potter is now the second favourite on the infamous Premier League Sack Race betting market. With the bookies casting a dim light on his future at a club where expectations are high and the fans certainly won’t accept tenth place and out of the European places. Graham Potter Needs Time However, Poyet thinks that Potter needs time at Stamford Bridge and hopes that the new Chelsea owners don’t act too hastily in dispensing with someone who has yet to put his imprint on the team. “It’s a very difficult situation” Poyet told us. “ I think we need to go back to the change of ownership. When it’s a change of ownership, especially after the one of Roman Abramovich which was something unique for Chelsea fans. “When the new owners arrive, you know how the fans are going to be. They want success instantly, not next year. So when they made the decision to change the manager (from Thomas Tuchel to Graham Potter), it was a strong decision.” “When you sign a new player and they perform really well, then you obviously get the credit. However, when a player doesn’t perform well, then you get criticism, even if the decision was correct to sign the player.” From the latest William Hill Accumulator tips to the new Acca Trackers, the team @ WhatAcca.com have it covered. The Situation at Chelsea While Gus Poyet admitted that the situation isn’t great for Chelsea fans at the moment. He thinks that the club need to stop with the short-term approach that has previously been adopted with managers. “Things at Chelsea are not working right now" Nobody really knows why. Perhaps the problems still stem from the previous manager (Tuchel), or the momentum or even Potter’s style. Nobody even knows how long it will take for the new manager to create a competitive team. “As a coach myself, it seems clear that Graham Potter needs time. Over the past few years, Chelsea have had a short-term outlook when it comes to changing managers. But I know the pressure of that position. You don’t have to go too far. How many times has a Chelsea manager won the Premier League only to be sacked the following season?" “Ancelotti, even Mourinho twice. It shows that Chelsea need to be playing for something. Chelsea are not a team that will settle for fifth, sixth or seventh. You have to go back to the 1990’s to find when that would have been an acceptable finishing position for this club.” Stay up to date with the latest Acca Builders with the WhatAcca.com betting Guru's!
