Fingers crossed that we get a packed schedule of Championship matches to usher in the New Year. There is a full programme of games taking place between 1 January and 3 January, with Chris Wilder returning to his former club Sheffield United. Meanwhile, Derby County will aim to pull off the great escape and they clash with Reading. SATURDAY 1ST JANUARY Sheffield United 12:30 Middlesbrough It has come as no surprise to find Chris Wilder has got Middlesbrough moving in an upwardly mobile direction. The Teeside club are fifth in the EFL Championship table after a series of wins and they can win at Bramall Lane. There have been five wins in the past six matches, with Wilder returning to his former club. The Blades are in good form of their own but it could be the visitors who edge it. BEST BET: Middlesbrough to win Coventry City 15:00 Luton Town It’s hard to be confident that either side will win this clash. The Sky Blues have recently hit the buffers, with Mark Robins’ side dropping to tenth in the table. It has been six games without a victory although they should offer an attacking threat against an inconsistent Luton side. The Hatters scored three goals at Blackpool recently, so more goals could be on the cards here. BEST BET: BTTS Yes SUNDAY 2ND JANUARY Blackburn Rovers 14:00 Huddersfield Town Tony Mowbray’s side are bang in contention to land automatic promotion. Blackburn’s latest win came against Barnsley on Wednesday and we expect them to beat the Terriers. Rather than simply back the home win, consider combining it with Rovers to keep a clean sheet. Before the Tykes scored at Ewood Park, it had been five consecutive shut outs. Why not take a look at todays Acca Tips on WhatAcca.com for the latest predictions. BEST BET: Blackburn + BTTS No West Bromwich Albion 14:00 Cardiff City West Bromwich Albion are having a strange season. They sit fourth in the Championship table and are still in contention for automatic promotion. However, the natives are restless thanks to fairly moribund football and that was in evidence when losing 1-0 at Derby. Cardiff have shown signs of life but they’re likely to be nullified by a pragmatic Baggies team and this will be low-scoring. BEST BET: Under 2.5 Goals MONDAY 3RD JANUARY Nottingham Forest 15:00 Barnsley Barnsley sit twenty-third in the Championship table and they need to start landing wins if they’re to stay afloat this season. They were recently competitive at Ewood Park and could be involved in a high-scoring clash at the City Ground. Nottingham Forest were able to find the net twice at home to Peterborough and Hull, with Steve Cooper’s side wanting to get back in the promotion argument. BEST BET: Over 2.5 Goals Reading 15:00 Derby County There’s a quiet feeling that Derby County can stay afloat in the Championship. With the Rams having recently beaten West Brom. Wayne Rooney’s side now travel to Berkshire to face an off-colour Reading side who could get sucked into a relegation scrap. There have been just two wins in the past ten games for the home side and perhaps the momentum is with the visitors. BEST BET: Derby to win At the time of writing, it is AFC Bournemouth and Fulham FC who occupy the automatic promotion spots. However, Blackburn Rovers are now breathing down their necks, while West Brom and Huddersfield will also feel they can be part of the promotion argument. Meanwhile, Derby County are aiming to try and bridge the gap with plenty of games remaining.
