The Cottagers and the Baggies are the market leaders for promotion, while troubled Derby County head to Hull City hoping for a change of fortune after being turned over by Peterborough on Saturday. We look ahead and make predictions for the key games:

TUESDAY 18^TH AUGUST

Barnsley 19:45 Luton Town

Barnsley have enjoyed a solid start to the season by drawing at Cardiff before a 1-0 win over Coventry, with the Tykes illustrating a strong defence in both games and they’re likely to run a tight ship against a Luton side who have bagged five goals in their first two clashes. Nathan Jones’ side showed character to storm back against the Baggies to no avail and we’re going to punt on this clash to end all square.

Millwall 19:45 Fulham

Fulham might have put Huddersfield to the sword when winning 5-1 in Yorkshire although this could be a much sternest test against a Lions team who are unbeaten thus far this season. Gary Rowett has his Millwall team well-trained and there was plenty to like about the 1-1 draw at Loftus Road on the opening day of the season. Jed Wallace remains a key player for the home side and he can help them earn a point here. Fulham are currently Top of the EFL Championship table and are looking a strong outfit already.

Peterborough United 19:45 Cardiff City

Peterborough produced the Great Escape to overcome Derby County in the Saturday lunchtime clash although Posh were facing a second consecutive defeat squarely in the face against one of the weaker teams. Therefore, we can’t be confident that they’ll cope against a physical Cardiff side who are starting to build up a head of steam under Mick McCarthy. It’s entirely possible that Kieffer Moore will make all the difference here.

Swansea City 19:45 Stoke City

Stoke might have played out a 3-2 victory over Reading in their season opener although the Potters reverted to type when drawing 0-0 at Birmingham and we should expect a similarly low-scoring clash when they head to the Liberty Stadium. Michael O’Neill is a pragmatic manager, while Russell Martin is still adjusting to life in the Championship and we might expect chances to be at a premium here.

BEST BET: Under 2.5 Goals

Reading 20:00 Bristol City

It’s hard to be too confident about these two teams, with Reading having been under a transfer embargo during the summer although they did manage to overcome a troubled Preston side on Saturday. The Royals might share the spoils with a Bristol City team still looking for their first win under Nigel Pearson and the Robins will look to steady the ship after losing at Middlesbrough.

WEDNESDAY 19^THAUGUST

Hull City 19:45 Derby County

Derby were left to rue some individual errors on Saturday when throwing away the lead to lose the clash against Peterborough and they could be under the cosh at the KCom Stadium. Wayne Rooney has seen his team score in all three of their games thus far, while the Tigers scored four times at Deepdale in their opener before being overrun by QPR at the weekend, so they’ll be looking to bounce back here. West Bromwich Albion 20:00 Sheffield United

It’s clear that the Baggies are going to be a high-scoring team this season, with West Brom scoring twice at the Vitality Stadium when drawing 2-2 at Bournemouth before a 3-2 win over Luton. Valerien Ismael will want to address the defensive side of things against a shot-shy Sheffield United side who have so far failed to find the net after drawing blanks against Birmingham and Swansea.
