Punters Celebrating After 11/1 Italy Win Euro 2020

In the end, it was Italy who triumphed at the 2020 European Championship, with many punters celebrating after backing the Azzurri at betting odds of 11/1 before the tournament started. Indeed, some England fans were among them, which meant that the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 final defeat was somewhat bittersweet as Roberto Mancini’s side triumphed on spot kicks.

Italy had actually been available at bigger odds than 11/1 in the weeks and months leading up to the competition, with punters starting to latch on to a team who were enjoying an excellent unbeaten record and they never looked back following on from that opening 3-0 win over Turkey which caused their price to shorten further.

England Each-Way Backers Land a Profit

England quickly found themselves in the bottom half of the Euro 2020 draw, with Gareth Southgate having navigated the Three Lions through to the final and that at least rewarded any customer who backed them each-way at betting odds of 5/1. Considering the payout was 1/2 odds for the first two places, this would have been a decent return.

However, France were a warm order and most bookies had Les Bleus as 9/2 favourites before the tournament started, while Belgium and Spain backers were unable to secure a profit unless they cashed out before their teams exited the competition at the quarter final and semi-final stage to Italy respectively.

Patrik Schick Lands Golden Boot at Betting Odds of 150/1

Before the 2020 European Championship started, few punters were considering Patrik Schick to top score at the tournament, although the Czech Republic forward was able to notch two goals against Scotland and he continued to be prolific, with only England denying the forward a chance to add to his tally.

Incredibly, you could have backed Schick at 150/1 to win the Golden Boot before the tournament, although he ended up tying with Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of the tree, with this meaning that punters enjoyed a 75/1 pay out due to the dead heat rules that were in place.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo was a best price 14/1 to secure the Golden Boot prize which meant an effective 7/1 payout due to the dead heat with Schick, while there was also a return for each-way backers of some notable forward.

Lukaku, Forsberg, Kane and Benzema in Frame

Romelu Lukaku scored four goals in total to reward each-way backers, while Harry Kane and Karim Benzema were also among the favourites and they wound up on four goals come the end of the tournament. Interestingly, Kane hadn’t got a goal on the board until the knockout stage but came through for those backing him to be top scorer each-way along with top England scorer.

Donnarumma and Pedri Win Euro 2020 Player Awards at Big Prices

Gianluigi Donnarumma became the first goalkeeper to win a European Championship Player of the Year award, with the Italian stopper not even considered to be a contender before the tournament started and he could be backed at betting odds of 150/1 before a ball was kicked, with the Milan keeper having performed heroics.

He firstly helped the Azzurri overcome Spain on penalties in the semi-final before repeating the trick against England in the final, while Pedri was also chalked up at huge odds to win the Young Player of the Tournament although the Spaniard was a shining light for his team as they reached the semi-final stage.
