Best Betting Apps

best betting apps

The betting industry is changing. No longer are punters using their desktop and laptop machines to place bets with, but instead they are using smartphones and tablets.

This shift in the way that we bet has meant that bookmakers have been forced to keep up. The evolution of betting apps for some bookies has been fairly arduous, but I’d go as far as saying that most are pretty user friendly now.

I remember when I used betting apps on my Blackberry, Betfair I think it was, and whilst it was pretty tricky to use, the concept of it blew my mind. If you are new to the betting industry or even of a certain age, then betting apps are likely going to be something that you’ve grown up with. Heck, it may be all some of you know.

If you’re of a certain era, then the transition from online to mobile may still be one that’s taking place. What I can say for certain is that betting apps are here to stay, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see over the next decade or so, betting websites become almost obsolete, making way for betting apps.

Top betting apps available to download NOW!

Whilst the shift in technological advancements of mobile betting technology has been huge over the last few years, there are still some bookies that are doing a better job than others. Pretty much all are usable, but there are definitely some that work to a higher standard.

#1 Betting App – Bet365

My go to, which may come as little surprise to long-time readers of What Acca, is that of bet365. In my opinion, their betting app is far superior to that of the competition and it has been for some time now.

The design of the app is actually very familiar to that of the bet365 sportsbook. Obviously, it’s been optimised for mobile, but the layout and features that you can access work in a very similar way. If you are used to the brand, then you’re going to feel very at home within the bet365 app.

In terms of features you get to access things like live betting, live streaming, a huge range of sports and markets, match centres for a wide range of sports and a great betslip section that includes cash out betting, current live bets, unsettled and settled bets.

    #2 William Hill

William Hill are another bookmaker that scores highly on the list. They have been around for ages now and are a brand that I keep coming back to. What’s interesting about William Hill is that I’m actually not a fan of their current edition of their online sportsbook. Their app on the other hand is easily one of the best and is my preferred method for betting with the brand.

Not only does the William Hill app look the part, but as it’s designed using HTML5, it works on all mobile devices. I’ve recently picked up the latest iPhone with a large 6.2inch screen and their app works flawlessly with it.

One of the biggest pulls for me with William Hill is that they work great with acca bets. In fact, they’ve a whole section of their website and app dedicated just to acca betting. Couple that with their Price Boost feature, and you can’t go far wrong.

      #3 BetVictor

There are few lists that I make with the “best of” something in the betting industry that don’t include BetVictor these days. They are probably the best all-rounder there is and in terms of pricing, are rarely beaten.

I’m a big fan of their online sportsbook actually, so their betting app extension has been one that I’ve found very easily to switch across to. From an accumulator perspective, it’s the pricing that I am most drawn to with BetVictor and a reason that many have found them to be so good over the years.

        #4 Paddy Power

Admittedly an app that I use a little less than the three mentioned above, Paddy Power have still been able to create a cracking betting app. It’s one that I know a lot of you use already and to be honest, I can totally see why.

In terms of design, it looks great (just like their sportsbook), but the reason that I like betting with the brand in the first place is the number of offers and promotions that they provide for both new and existing players. This could be price boosts, acca insurance or money back guarantee’s, but there are few that have a range of offers like Paddy do.

          The future of betting apps

Betting apps are 100% here to stay and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them becoming the most accessed product for a bookmaker within the next 10 years (or even sooner!). From a personal point of view, I place the majority of my bets via apps, which is strange as the majority of my research is done on my laptop.

In a report that was released by the Online Gambling Commission in 2018 it was stated that 50% of bets were still placed using a laptop, but this number had decreased from as high as 61% in 2015, with trends continuing to fall.

Mobile betting had seen a steady increase throughout that same period, rising from 22% in 2015 up to 38% in 2018. I fully expect these numbers to continue on their current trends over the next few years at least.

          What does this all mean?

Well, it means that bookmakers are going to be shifting focus away from improvements with their websites and instead investing the time and money into their betting apps instead.

In fact, there I believe there is proof of this already. Betfred, in my opinion, have a terrible looking and functioning website. It’s dated and hard to use, even for someone like me who’s been using it (sparingly) for over a decade now.

When you compare this to their betting app, it’s totally different. Like, it could be from totally different sites. The app looks modern, is easy to function and works brilliantly well. Whilst these things are subjective, I think most would agree with me on this.

Betting apps are only going to improve, and this is an exciting time for punters. The number of features is going to grow and the overall user-experience is going to be better. If you’re not using a betting app right now, then start learning up as it could, in the not too distant future, be the only platform that you can bet on.

I've made What Acca to try and help people starting out with accumulator betting. The possibilities of these types of bets are pretty much endless, with the major attraction coming from the fact that a lot of money can be won for very little outlay. What Acca will hopefully teach you how to make more profitable accumulator bets whilst also eradicating some of the mistakes that I have made over the years.
