The 2023 Cheltenham Festival takes place between Tuesday 14 March – Friday 17 March, with punters hoping to beat the bookies over the four day meeting and it all starts with the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle on Day One. The Arkle Chase follows hard on the heels of the Supreme and there could be some merit in backing JONBON at a nice price. You might not get rich backing CONSTITUTION HILL for the Champion Hurdle although the Nicky Henderson aeroplane is sure to be in many Cheltenham accumulator bets, while Day Two sees EDWARDSTONE go up against Energumene and preference is for the former when it comes to the Queen Mother Champion Chase. Day Two is jam-packed with other quality horse races and GAELIC WARRIOR looks a decent each-way shout for the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle which kicks things off on that day. We also have the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase where the experienced THYME HILL might be able to make it count after impressing over hurdles. The third day of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival features the Stayers’ Hurdle and it’s noticeable that FLOORING PORTER is available at a very backable price. The Gavin Cromwell-trained runner won the race twelve months ago and is capable of running a big race on his return to the course. Blazing Khal, Marie’s Rock and Teahupoo are the other front runners in that race, while we are finding it hard to oppose SHISHKIN when it comes to the Ryanair Chase and perhaps the Nicky Henderson-trained charge will have too much for his opponents over this middle distance, with many thinking he could still win a Queen Mother Champion Chase. On Friday of the Cheltenham Festival, we have the Gold Cup and all eyes will be on Galopin Des Champs who is the short-priced favourite to land the biggest prize of the meeting. It’s certainly hard to crab the horse’s form and there’s an argument that the market leader will win by a comfortable margin. A Plus Tard was a hugely impressive winner last year although the Henry de Bromhead horse looks woefully out of form this time around, with BRAVEMANSGAME perhaps the best each-way value in the race and there was everything to like about the way that the Paul Nicholls-trained charge romped home in the King George VI Chase.
